Nowadays, PACs don’t just attack their opponents. They also support them in primaries if they think they’ll be easier to beat.
We saw this controversial tactic a lot in 2022 in U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races, partially orchestrated by former Gov. Roy Cooper — who was in charge of the Democratic Governors Association at the time. They boosted conservative candidates in Illinois, Michigan and Maryland.
Well, apparently this strategy has made its way down to North Carolina’s lieutenant governor race.
Austin Davis, the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania and the new chairman of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association, bragged in a podcast interview this week that his organization influenced North Carolina’s LG race in the 2024 Republican primary.
