I had a feeling the Berger-Page race would be close, but my goodness. Two votes?!?

It was a wild night in N.C. politics, and not just because of this race. I wrote a column for the newspaper on how incumbents fell in droves. It should be live later this morning.

In the Berger-Page race, the truth is nobody knows how things are going to shake out. There are likely still at least a handful of votes left to count, from overseas and provisionals.

I don’t think there’s any use trying to game out who might benefit from those, but there’s certainly a chance it changes the outcome.

There’s not a lot of precedent for this sort of thing in a primary, but in the 2024 general election, there were 445 provisional ballots cast in the Terence Everitt-Ashlee Bryan Adams race, and the eventual winner (Everitt) picked up a net 21 votes.
