Great photo ops but it's very much performative. The House did not allow Rep. Pettersen to vote virtually 4 weeks after giving birth. These dads aren't the birthing parents so they can and should be carrying the kids around and doing their fair share.

How many kids died from guns in North Carolina last year?

Fewer than you’d guess, but sadly way too many. The state’s child mortality rate is moving in the wrong direction: https://webservices.ncleg.gov/ViewDocSiteFile/87416

So now Republican men who fought so hard against Medicaid for N.C. children for so many years want to show what good dads they are? I don't doubt they are good dads. To THEIR CHILDREN. And we're supposed to pin a medal on 'em for that? It's legislation benefitting ALL N.C. children that I care about. It's cute that J.D. Vance's kid was in PJ's but let's be clear. Women legislators have gotten nothing but grief over the years if they brought their kids to events. The message has been clear: Stay home with your kids. I imagine all these great Republican dads who wear a lil spit-up like a badge of honor are quick to hand off the kid to wife or babysitter with an ease many of us can only dream of.

I appreciate your passion, and thank you for reading. I think it sends a powerful statement in support of mothers, too, to see dads bringing kids to events. I think the comment about handing kids off to a babysitter is uncharitable. There’s no evidence for that.

Yeah. No. “Uncharitable” is better used to describe the Republican agenda in the GA.

I am a Democrat but honest question here -- why is gerrymandering good for either party? NC is one of the most evenly divided states in the country by party + independents. Why not have neutral districts where all candidates have to fight for votes? That seems to benefit everyone. They're tough to draw, but we have the tools to do it now.

That kind of map would be more gerrymandered than any map we’ve ever used. North Carolina is very geographically polarized, and the state constitution requires that whole counties be kept together where possible. I admire the sentiment, but it’s just not possible.
