I’ll just ask this plainly up front: What do you think kindergarteners should learn at school?
Seeing as how I have a kindergarten student myself, I have a pretty vested interest in this. And if you asked me, I’d rattle off a few things like counting to 100, writing your name, tying your shoes, telling time, counting change, a little simple addition and maybe, by the end of the year, reading a “See Spot Run” book.
If we’re feeling ambitious, we could work in an understanding that you live in a city, which is in a state, which is part of the United States. I’m not even introducing counties at this point.
As a stretch goal, we could expect a kindergartener to have a favorite book and be able to explain what they like about it.
That strikes me as a reasonable course of study for 5- and 6-year-olds.
