One of the country’s leading conservative political commentators spent the better part of an hour this week calling for Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer Merriweather to be put in jail.
Matt Walsh was talking about the horrifying case of Di-Quan Hunt, the 32-year-old Charlotte man accused of filming himself attacking women on the street. In one video, Hunt appears to punch a woman to the ground in Dilworth and stand over her shouting. She suffered serious injuries.
The more you learn, the more outrageous the case becomes, and that is saying something in a media environment oversaturated with rage bait. Hunt had been arrested repeatedly and pleaded guilty just five months ago to assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to the 89 days he had already served in the Mecklenburg County jail and released immediately.
Most disturbing of all, Hunt’s own family told WSOC they had spent years trying to get him off the streets.
