What a mess in Charlotte last night.
The school board fired the superintendent it had just brought back. The chairwoman gave up her leadership post but will remain on the board even as the district attorney asks for an SBI investigation into contracts she’s approved.
I’m at the point where I’d welcome the General Assembly coming in and dissolving the school board and putting the school district into some sort of receivership. That’s unlikely to happen, but a Democratic friend suggested the state could send Superintendent of Public Instruction Mo Green down to clean things up. I have plenty of criticisms of Mr. Green, but honestly, that might be the best course of action.
But let’s back up a minute. My newspaper column today is about how school leaders keep weakening their own case for more funding by how they handle the money they already have.
