Is it possible that instead of this OR that, it can be both/and? We can hold two or more viewpoints at the same time. It will serve all of us better if we can live in a state of both/and.
Your position that climate change is not worsening storms is abjectly false, cherry picking one Nature article referring only to frequency. That lie on your part undermines any other credibility you might have as a journalist. There is clear consensus that climate change is making storms more destructive, causing droughts and has already increased global temperatures. https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/07/how-climate-change-is-making-hurricanes-more-dangerous/
Hi Mindy! I would disagree that there is "clear consensus." There is a consensus that storms are *projected* to be worse in the future, but the evidence that it has contributed to intensified storms so far is ambiguous at best.
I hope you'll also read the NOAA overview of the science (don't worry, it's a Biden-era document) that I also linked in the article. It concludes: "In summary, it is premature to conclude with high confidence that human-caused increases in greenhouse gases have caused a change in past Atlantic basin hurricane activity that is outside the range of natural variability, although greenhouse gases are strongly linked to global warming."
You are clearly allowing your political leanings to impair your judgement. 2024 was the warmest year on record. There is clear data that storm intensity is worsening due to warming oceans, the global temperature is rising, glaciers are melting, droughts are increasing in certain areas, plant and animal life is impacted. Your willful ignorance and spreading of misinformation is shameful. As a scientist myself, I believe in evidence based and factual data, not opinion based conclusions. And how sad that you felt you had to comment that a document is Biden era; that just confirms your awareness that the current administration is replacing truth with lies. Please examine your bias. Our children and grandchildren’s future on this planet is at stake.

What a refreshing perspective!

That you would choose to ignore facts belies your bias and willing ignorance of facts.
